Search & Rescue Levy

Gallatin County Search and Rescue

What is the Search & Rescue levy?

In 1986, Gallatin County voters resoundingly voted to fund Search and Rescue with one mill, which currently raises about $352,837 annually.

Voters are now asked to decide on an additional two mills, which will raise an estimated $705,674 annually. However, with the historic growth of Gallatin County over the last 30 years since voters were last asked for funding, that amount no longer fully supports the volunteers and missions of Search and Rescue.

Why now?

Since the first levy was passed in the mid-1980s, Gallatin County has grown, Search and Rescue's mission has grown, the complexities of the mission have grown, and the world class group of volunteers who make up Search and Rescue has grown.

Additional funding would take care of those about 150 world-class volunteers by providing administrative support, leadership and consistent management, budgeting, research, maintenance, and planning.

How much will it cost me?

The estimated annual tax increase for a $400,000 home is approximately $10.80.
