Open Burning

Open burning season in Gallatin County runs March 1 - November 30 each year. 

Open burning requires the purchase and activation of a burn permit each year. Permits can be obtained at Burn Permits - Gallatin County (gallatinburnpermits.com). 

Permits can also be picked up in person at the following locations:

     Bozeman Fire Department – 34 N. Rouse Ave., Bozeman

     Central Valley Fire District – 215 Wings Way, Belgrade

     Gallatin County Treasurer’s Office – 311 W. Main St., room 103, Bozeman

     Three Forks Community Library – 607 S. Main St., Three Forks

If you believe that someone is burning without an activated permit or is burning illegal items, please call the Sheriff's Department at (406) 582-2100 for non-emergencies.
