What happened to the Hope House?

Western Montana Mental Health Center provided mental health crisis stabilization and other services for Gallatin County and surrounding areas at the Gallatin Mental Health Center, including the Hope House, from 2010 until Bozeman operations ceased in April 2023. In 2017, $200 million in behavioral health funding was cut from Montana’s Department of Health and Human Services biennial budget, which stripped funding from case management and reduced financial sustainability for crisis stabilization service providers. Montana’s behavioral health system in general, and in particular our safety net organizations, have struggled because of underinvestment.  With the highest cost of living in the state, safety net organizations in Gallatin County face an uphill battle to successfully recruit and retain staff. Western was unable to continue operating their Livingston and Bozeman facilities in this challenging climate.
